In the article “The Ego is the Enemy of Good Leadership” by Rasmus Hougaard and Jacqueline Carter, I reflected on how an uncontrolled ego can undermine a leader’s effectiveness.

Leadership must be guided by a genuine pursuit of collective growth, empathy, and courage to face challenges.

However, as leaders rise through the ranks, they also face the increasing risk of becoming isolated in a bubble of power and privilege, distancing themselves from what matters: people.

The article emphasizes that an inflated ego can distort our values, make us more susceptible to manipulation, and weaken our ability to learn from mistakes.

In a world where change is constant, staying grounded is essential to maintaining our connection with those around us and maintaining a clear vision of the real needs of the organization and the environments in which we operate.

As leaders, we must continually challenge ourselves to question which privileges truly serve us and which only feed our egos.

Humility and gratitude must be daily practices, not just words. Effective leadership is not a trophy, but a way of being of service, continually, where the sense of accomplishment is measured by the positive impact we leave on the lives we touch and the contexts…
